About Us: La Oveja Negra, Tradition and Flavor in the Heart of Santa María la Ribera

Our History: A Legacy of Family Flavor

In the heart of the historic and vibrant Santa María la Ribera neighborhood lies La Oveja Negra, a restaurant that is more than just a place to eat: it is the result of a family dream and a culinary tradition that has been proudly passed down through five generations.

Our story began with the courage and entrepreneurial spirit of our grandmother, who arrived in Mexico City from Tulancingo, Hidalgo, with a priceless treasure: a family recipe for the most exquisite barbacoa. Determined to share the authentic flavor of her homeland, she began her journey with a modest stand inside a tortilla shop on Carpio Street. The quality and unparalleled flavor of her barbacoa soon won the hearts of the locals, laying the foundation for what is now La Oveja Negra.

Our Philosophy: Quality and Authenticity

True to our roots, at La Oveja Negra we pride ourselves on offering an authentic, high-quality dining experience. Our secret lies in the care and dedication we put into each dish. The barbacoa we serve comes from organically raised lambs from our own ranch in Hidalgo, guaranteeing exceptional flavor and tenderness.

More than a Restaurant: A Meeting Point

Over the years, La Oveja Negra has become a landmark in the Santa María la Ribera neighborhood and a meeting place for families and friends. On weekends, our restaurant comes alive with live music, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere that invites after-dinner conversation and celebration.

We've earned a reputation as the ideal place to cure a hangover, but we're also the setting for countless family gatherings, celebrations, and memorable moments.

Our Commitment

At La Oveja Negra, we are committed to preserving authentic Mexican cuisine and offering our guests an experience that goes beyond the food. We want each visit to be a journey through the flavors of Hidalgo and an encounter with the warmth of family tradition.
